How to replace the window switches on a 300ZX with the non-illuminated zspec switches

Parts (1)

Total $38

Build steps (7)

  1. 1

Remove the 2 bolts on the driver's side window switch trim

Two 10mm bolts are hidden under the felt pad on the driver's side. Remove them

  2. 2

Pop out the trim using a trim removal tool

Use a trim removal tool to pry up on the panel. It'll pop straight up and have a connector to disconnect. Then you can pull it all the way out.

  3. 3

Pop the switches out and install new ones

I used the same trim removal tool to push up from underneath the switches. There's a small rectangle holding them in place, they came out pretty easily. Once out you can simply push the new switches in until they click.

Reinstall the driver's side panel and connector

Slide the connector back in and push the trim into place. Then reinstall the two 10mm bolts.

  5. 5

Remove the passenger side window switch trim

Easier than the driver's side, you can just use the trim tool to pop the passenger side trim straight up. The connector and harness get in the way a bit here so you have to slide it a bit towards the front of the car.

  6. 6

Install the new passenger side switch

Same process as the driver's side. Just pop the old switch out and push the new switch in. Once done connect it to the harness and simply click the trim into place.

Turn the car on and test the switches

Make sure all 4 switches work including the passenger lock. The auto down feature should also still work.

Looks great! I have these on my shelf ready to go in. Can you confirm if they let the lights through?

Unfortunately they don't, at least the ones I bought. They're listed as non-illuminated :/
